The Magic Dog Gate might be a good idea on paper, but it doesn't work in the real world.
The Magic Dog Gate might be a good idea on paper, but it doesn't work in the real world. First off, I waited two weeks for it to get from Point A (them) to Point B (me). Upon opening the bag, I discovered that there were NO instructions for installation. The materials are not flimsy, but they are far from sturdy. The adhesive-backed hooks with which to hang the mesh "gate" looked like they would pull paint and wood off of my stairs, so I didn't even want to experiment with a no-instructions installation. The biggest problem though is the mesh; it was advertised as being 43.5 inches wide, when, in fact, it is 70" wide. Trying to roll one end of the mesh around itself so it fit a 36" wide opening was a nightmare. And the soft bottom offered no resistance to a baby, cat, or pooch who could easily slide under it if used on an open stairway as I had hoped (see photo). As far as I can tell, you must unhook the top tab on one side of the gate to create a 45 degree opening, which you then must step over and around in order to pass through. I've never said this before, but this item appears to be more scam than useful product. I should have known though, because of the "As Advertised on TV" look and feel of the packaging (see photo). Amazon should immediately place this product on their CRaP List (Can't Realize any Profit), and perhaps even take a long, hard look at the Vendor's "qualifications."

Waste of money for little dogs.
It took forever to get it up, it's so flimsy and poorly made. I was trying to pull it tight bc my Yorkie is only 6 lbs and I knew she would just slide underneath it and the material kept popping off the hooks if I got it too tight, but too lose and my little one could slip under it for the great escape. Comes with no instructions. I just felt like I was doing something wrong, bc it wasn't working at all.. The retractable poles are for the sides of the gate, not the bottom so the bottom stays loose, perfect for little dogs to slip under. The retracable poles were the biggest pain in the butt, they don't stay in place, they slide back in too easily with just the sligthtest movement. It's useless for me. It looks like this product has a bunch of good reviews but it only has a couple of reviews because if you read the reviews, most are about an entirely different product like baby blankets, etc vs this gate.

Awful!
I just received this today and wanted to use it right away to keep my son from going up my stairs. The little piece of paper that came with it explains that the hooks do not damage walls, use with confidence. Well I pulled the hooks out first and set them. When I went to put the actual mesh net up I found one of the sides does not even have a hook hole! Looks like it had been ripped off. I tried to pull the hooks off the wall and guess what happened. Paint came with it. Do not buy this product!

An ill conceived bad idea
I feel dumb for even thinking this thing could work. In theory, I suppose it’s possible for a mesh gate to work, but not this one. The adhesive on the hooks is strong, but doesn’t last. With the first hook I accidentally touched the wall in the wrong spot and it pulled a chunk of paint off the wall when I tried to move it. However another successfully placed hook just naturally fell off after a few days. There are no instructions on the best way to place the hooks, just a slip of paper with half a positive review. The placement of the loops is not optimum. In order to open the mesh, you have to reach down to the floor and unhook it. When you do, the other side will unhook itself. Even when the mesh is properly installed, it’s easy for a dog to go under or climb over. I’m not sure what this thing is good for… maybe throwing dirty clothes on and carrying to the laundry room.

Good quality for the price- but measure doorway
Quality is good - but is wider than a bedroom door. I should’nt have taken for granted it would fit a standard door way. But we will keep it & fold/clasp the middle to tighten it up.The cloth loops to hook the gate onto the plastic brackets seemed small but actually are very easy to use & work well.Because of a leg injury we have to keep our dog out of the bedroom & off our bed now. At 12 years old we expected him to protest - but maybe because it’s not a solid gate he doesn’t mind the gate. So it has served our purpose well.

Nice product. But, use different wall hooks
This is a cool product that's easier to store than a pressure style baby gate. However, the adhesive on the hooks is pretty bad. Two of them fell off even though I thoroughly cleaned the wall with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry first. Use command hooks instead and you won't have a problem. The mesh gate itself isn't very stretchy. Keep that in mind when placing the hooks so you can hook it up without tearing anything.

Messed up my drywall instantly. Don’t buy!!!!
This thing came with zero instructions. Now it’s pretty straightforward to install but I decided I wanted to re-position it and as other reviewer‘s had said that they move this back-and-forth between different parts of their house and it said that it wouldn’t damage my walls, I took off some of the hooks and a huge chunk of my wall came with it. So for hooks, four holes in my drywall. Oh and this is a brand new house so it isn’t that issue. Also it comes with six hooks, not eat. That isn’t super useful if you want to install the hooks in more than one doorway. I’m not sure why it’s going to come with two extra since that is useless. Now I have a basically non-functioning thing and four holes in my wall. NOT HAPPY!!!!!

Should have trusted the poor reviews.
I am questioning that I even got the "As seen on TV" version as these had a one sheet intruction page with vaugue install directions, no install photos and no FAQs, etc. Like what's you with the retractable poles? Which end us up?! On the poles and the whole gate. Well no so much a gate but more like a net. Would make a great fishing alternative to a pole!
