Cast-Iron Seasoning Oil
I don't remember where I read the following info, but I believed it and it has made all the difference in my cast iron products. Flax seed oil has a very high smoke point, hardens better than other oils when heated and dried, and most importantly is food-grade safe. These 3 points together make it the best oil for seasoning. Obviously it needs to be safe for consumption, so that combined with hardening better than other food safe oils makes it an awesome seasoning layer for cast-irons. I've noticed the difference when using it because my cast irons are super smooth and maintain their layers very well. Because this oil is super expensive, I also use coconut oil due to its high smoke point when I just need to give the pans a light oiling after cooking. But if I think the non-stick surface is being lost a little bit, this is my magic fairy dust (liquid) to make sure the layer isn't lost and maintains slippery smoothness when cooking foods.

True to its description.
It’s very rare I write good reviews on Amazon anymore. They sell so much trash! However, this product has been amazing. It’s legit in that it’s raw and cold pressed , as it must be refrigerated when opened, and the flavor of the flax is strong, raw, and slightly bitter. Super healthy and good in light cooking or drizzling!

Organic, Vegan, Good Omega 3 Source
I confess that I am not an expert on seasoning cookware, one of the two main reasons for anyone buying this product. Apparently flax seed oil is a good agent to use in initial seasoning for iron because it bonds very tightly in response to heat - you bake it initially onto the cookware in the oven for an extended period of time and then wipe it clean. I tried it on my new cast iron skillet (also sold by Greater Goods) and so far it seems to work just fine, no sticking. However, from what I read, flax seed oil should only be used for cooking over moderate, not high heat, because it has a low smoke point (225 F according to several websites). As for the health benefits, the other main reason for using flax seed oil, it has a desirable ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acids, which is good news - you can use it in a salad or with other foods. However, I personally have to get used to the taste, which seems a little pungent to me. But there might be food situations where a strong flavored oil makes sense. In the end I think what is best is to have several different kinds of oil in your kitchen for different cooking and dietary needs, and flax seed oil could definitely be one of them.

Better value than a capsule.
I started taking Flax seed oil for A1C diabetes. I was told it "helps." However, I found it doesn't have an unpleasant taste (like fishtail) so it was more economical to buy the bottle. I didn't find it was great for my cast iron seasoning though, coconut oil still works best for me.

Great oil for seasoning cast iron!
This is great oil, probably the best I've used for cast iron seasoning. I've used it to re-season my cast iron twice now, and I use it between each cooking and cleaning session. It's all natural, tasteless, oderless, and flax seed oil does provide the best chemical seasoning. Remember to keep it in the fridge, as it can go rancid.
