L.A. CONFIDENTIAL [Blu-ray]

One of the very best murder mysteries ever filmed. It's an enthralling journey through the back alleys and halls of power of post WWII Los Angeles where no one and nothing is quite what it seems. Intricate, exquisitely crafted, we follow a host of deliciously realized but unrelated characters whose stories tangle into a murderous mess. Kim Basinger won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, but the entire cast brought their A+ Game. Not one slouch in the bunch.Los Angeles before the smog is as beautiful as the picture post cards used to make it. Costumes and Art Direction are top notch. Special praise for the driving, hard bitten, score by Jerry Goldsmith, who wrote the music for about 20% of all the movies you've ever seen.Not to be missed.

A great movie that stands the test of time, despite one flawed actor.

One of my husbands favorite movies

LA CONFIDENTIAL is not your typical, police drama. Crime and betrayal abound--both within the police department and everywhere else. Beyond the hidden mystery, there are well-developed characters, and it is interesting how two of those aforementioned characters develop an unlikely alliance. Also, if you like romance, an unlikely love affair develops as the movie progresses. Overall, it is a splendid film, and I should highly recommend it to anyone who is 17 years old or older... Some content is inappropriate for children.

This movie is already a few years old and yet it has become recently reacquainted with it, due to doctor's orders - bed rest. Now one has time to revisit some movies that may be interesting and watch them more than once. To refer to movies as one would refer to books would be heresy and yet I find myself reading a good book several times and watching a good movie several times too. With movies it is certain scenes or parts of a script that I watch over and over because they are brilliant. Perhaps writing reviews may become another new thing I do whilst recovering from surgery and being on what I now fondly call 'bed arrest'. It is all going well, so please do not worry about this humble reviewer. Your humble reviewer though finds it hard to stay still and do as she is told (doctor's orders remember). This movie has a number of particular qualities in addition to being a very interesting story. The main kick is that some of the greatest artists are in this movie performing in a good plot together when they were young. Russell Crowe, Kevin Spacey Guy Pearce, Danny De Vito, and many more. I definitely urge to consider watching this one again on a day when you are told you have to stay in bed for your health, you have had a stressful week or you want to see a movie with a plot that is quite interesting. This is perhaps the movie where I became a fan of Guy Pearce (he is not just a pretty face but a very smart one too). I am, as you know, a reviewer than likes to comment on the performance and the appeal of the movie itself as opposed to telling you what it is all about (which spoils the fun to have something to look forward to). For those reviewers who do find it important to reveal the plot of each movie in detail and do so kindly excuse me, I respect your style. Sometimes a movie that is worth much more than what the critics say is overlooked. This one, is now, in my opinion: a classic. I hope you find it as entertaining as I did or perhaps blame it on the bed rest. Your call. Do value each moment of life and please have some fun (books and movies), don't wait until you are told you are sick before you do. I hope some of you do agree with yours truly. One more thing: streaming is perfect. One more thing I love about technology now compared to where we were ten years ago. Thank you and enjoy.

I really enjoyed this rental. Excellent cast and storyline that keeps you engaged. What a surprise... Russell Crowe plays a "hothead" yet again, lol!

This is probably one of the greatest cop/ noire type of movies I’ve seen in a while . The story keeps you drawn in the whole time , lots of big name actors in this film that many may know , such as Kevin Spacey , Russell Crowe , Guy Pearce , Kim Basinger and Danny DeVito . I would recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of cop movies or a fan of the video game L.A Noire as this is one of the films the drew many ideas from for the game for sure !!

Quando nel '97 questo titolo fece la sua comparsa nelle sale cinematografiche il noir non godeva più del favore di un tempo ma nell'arco di poche settimane, L.A. Confidential riuscì a farsi notare per il suo cast spettacolare, attenzione per i dettagli e complessità strutturale.Nacque così un moderno classico del noir che catapultò parte del suo cast, in particolare gli allora giovanissimi Russel Crowe e Guy Pearce, nel pantheon delle star hollywoodiane.Fortunatamente questa è edizione blu-ray che rende giustizia al titolo, sia sul piano tecnico che in termini di contenuti extra.Video 4/5:Un transfer di rispetto, che nonostante il bitrate medio non altissimo (25 mbit) risulta più che sufficiente a presentare dignitosamente la pellicola. Le immagini presentano colori naturali e un velo di grana filmica, mai aggressiva e decisamente piacevole. Sebbene la nitidezza non faccia gridare al miracolo l'impressione generale è di una presentazione solida.Audio 4/5:Ho visto il film con la traccia audio inglese, quindi mi limiterò a descrivere le mie impressioni rispetto a questa. La traccia, in 5.1 non compresso (48kHz, 16-bit), generalmente favorisce l'azione frontalmente, ma non mancano momenti di maggiore immersione sonica nei quali tutti i canali vengono sfruttati come in scene con azione più concitata o durante le varie tracce musicali d'epoca sparse qua e la per il film; anche i dialoghi ottimi, chiari e ben definiti.L'unica cosa sulla traccia italiana che io possa dire, senza averla ascoltata, è che anche questa è in 5.1 e quindi mi aspetto un livello di immersione simile. Sebbene è giusto far notare che questa rispetto a quella inglese è compressa (640 kbps).Extra 5:Ottimi extra; 5 documentari sui vari aspetti della produzione del film, traccia di commento audio e traccia musicale isolata che presenta l'ottima colonna sonora del maestro Jerry Goldsmith. Decisamente niente di cui potersi lamentare.Nel complesso un'ottima versione home video che per me sfiora le 5 stelle piene e che i fan del film sicuramente apprezzeranno!
