My amazon basics microphone is way much better than this mic. This one is more expensive, does nit come with wire you have to buy it separately.

What I like about this mic
I bought this because I'm a nerd. I didn't want to just make it easy/lazy, and go with the what's popular, the Shure SM58.What I like about this mic? Well, it's brighter and more accurate than my ATR 2100 IMO, which is exactly the reason I bought it.You pretty much don't really need an extra windscreen or pop filter with this mic. It's actually a challenge to make it pop. What I don't like about this mic. It has a permanent 100 hz high pass filter enabled, that I didn't realize when I ordered it. When I attempted to cancel the order, it was too late, even though the product hadn't even shipped. Which for those of you reading, if you don't already know this, don't ever bother paying for expedited shipping. Amazon generally takes 2, 3, 4 days just to put something in the mail. The other thing I don't like about this mic is it is definitely more sibilant than my ATR 2100, Heil Sound PR 35, Shure WH20, or my Countryman B6 ... but that's OK. Audacity gives you access to free EQ *& de-esser, so.. not that much of an issue really.All-in-all.. this thing does what I expected it to do, sight unseen, having never heard it. But in hindsight, having heard this mic now, I kind of wish I had bought the D5 instead - partially because I'm just curious how it sounds. I suspect it has a bit more in the low end vs the D7. Oh, and it's cheaper, too.

What a great mic coming from decades of using Shure SM58!
Decided on getting this D5 just to see what else is available in the market that can make a positive impact for the vocalists in the family. After using for 2 months, everybody is loving the D5 for live performances. Compared to the SM58, the D5 is a little brighter and has much lesser proximity effect. This allows the vocalist to be closer to the mic which provides more detail in the voice to cut through the music.

Great Buy
Very helpful Reference mic and with a fethead ends up being way louder than needed. Pics up well and cancels other sounds out, however not as much as I expected. The handling noise is louder than I expected, but I have little to compare it to so that might be relative. You may still want to use a pop filter for plosives, the flat areas though makes it easy where to direct the sound.

WOW
Sounds GREAT! The sound quality is amazing. My voice sounds identical on the mic to what it sounds like in person. My audience (I use this for a radio show/podcast I do) noticed the clarity of my voice. There was definitive difference in the bass in my voice - there's a lot less on this mic that the previous one I used. This was rectifiable with my mixer board but if you want a deep resonant tone this might not be the mic for you - but if you want great clarity and sound and seemingly sturdy quality, this is a great mic. I also compared this mic with the Shure SM58 sound wise, and I preferred this mic over that one sound wise - it's not as muddy - it's clearer and that's the sound I was going for so I bought this one. It was a bonus that it costs less.

I liked the sound it puts out
I've used this microphone maybe a dozen times and it stopped putting out any signal. When it worked, I liked the sound it puts out. I also have a Sure Beta87A and this mic sounds similar, which is impressive since it is a condenser mic. The overall construction of the mic is solid and very roadworthy. Perhaps the switchless version doesn't fail as this one did. Regardless, AKG is providing me a replacement since the mic comes with a 2 year warranty. Hopefully the new one lasts.

A great mic from AKG
I had an AKG D88 years ago, and this is basically the follow up. It's a great microphone; I'm a big fan of the supercardioid pickup pattern for vocal microphones; I can turn up the gain enough to pick up a singer up to a foot away from the mic with no risk of feedback.

This mic was a huge upgrade over my USB mic. The sound quality is unbelievable. Perfect for streaming.

AKG D5 ~ The Sure SM58 Replacement for Live Music
The previous workhorse of the live market has been the Sure SM58, however, the real reason for it's use has been an acceptable sound with a robust build to survive road/live use. The AKG D5 is the 21st century replacement for the SM58 for several reasons... 1) It is as robust as the SM58, 2) The top end clarity beats the SM58 hands down and is approaching a condenser mic sound, 3) The feedback rejection is a lot better due to the tighter sensitivity profile, 4) The diaphragm can withstand more sound pressure before distortion, 5) Handling noise is minimal 6) It cost significantly less (particularly the switch-less version).Need I say more....

Great Mic
Excellent Mic, I made the switch from Shure SM58 two years ago having used one at a larger gig with a hired PA company. It made my voice sound warmer, more rounded! The sound engineer had an SM58 set up for me originally, but my voice sounded a bit nasal & Honky? He changed the mic to an AKG D5 and the difference was amazing, so much so that I went out the next day & bought one. I play with a number of Bands, mainly playing drums & singing backing vocals, I found an immediate difference when we used our own PA. The only Problem was I was getting a lot of spill from the kit especially when I moved the mic away for numbers I did not sing on. So the ideal solution was to get a D5 with a switch! So far it is perfect! I'm not saying the D5 is a better mic than the SM58, I am saying that the D5 is a better mic for me, it is more suited to my voice. If you are looking for a mic then definitely check out the AKG D5! The D5S is exactly the same but with a switch. They are a little harder to find, so when I saw one on-line I didn't hesitate I ordered it straight away from Amazon, it arrived 2 days later. Excellent service from Amazon as per usual. Great Price (a lot cheaper than the SM58)! Excellent Mic!!!PS Since I made the change to the D5, 2 other members of the Band have done the same thing, we are all very happy with the D5(s)!

Works for me
I love this mic. I find it provides a much clearer reproduction of sound in my vocal range than the microphones provided by my studio. Their mics are old Shure SM58s that have survived several years of use but given the SM58 is a hardy microphone, I still think it's a fair test. That said, my voice is in the mid range. I have no idea how it will work in high or low ranges.

This microphone is awesome
Wow, I have been using a really old, beat up microphone for almost 2 decades and shy'd away from speaking over the microphone at gigs due to the amount of distortion I always got when talking into the mic...well, now I know I just needed a new, decent microphone such as this one. My voice is now crystal clear and sounds really good. No disortion even if I shout or raise my voice. Very happy with this microphone and excited to use it when I DJ my next wedding in a weeks time.

great mics
Using these for male and female vocals, speech and occasionally for amplifying instruments. Very good sound quality across the range and around half the price of an SM58. Great mics
