Wait until the price drops below £25
I made the mistake of pre-ordering this because I wanted to play something that was actually going to be next gen when my PS5 arrived despite it not looking all that interesting to actually play.I also then made the mistake of assuming that the price was going to drop to £50 to be inline with the other games that were coming out (Spiderman etc).Yes I know Sony said they wanted increase the price of certain games, but I thought they were talking about games that were actullay going to be really good. You know big budget blockbusters that people looked forwards to, not games that were rushed out of door with hardly any content and a story that was less than 1/2 arsed. That being said this is a nice looking game and the combat is fairly solid but that's really all it has going for it. It's almost like they built the combat systems, created the enviroments, put some enemies in there and called it a day. There's hardly any story unless you sit a read through the codex that you find in the game, if I wanted to read a story I'd grab my kindle and read something that was actaully worth reading through. The UI can be really sluggish when managing ineventory items despite it running on a next gen console. I've also encountered regular performance issues when opening chests, collecting loot and killing enemies a certain way. Though they only started happening when I got further into the game.I also encountered serval bugs that stopped me progressing through the game there's also a fairly common bug/issue where you can't use light attacks untill you switch between weapons.Aside from the story one of the biggest dissapointments was the valour plates which you would expect to work like classes or at the very least do something to your stats or mobility etc, but they pretty much all just give you x% chance for a bleed or poison etc; They do look quite cool though. Then there's there the loot none of which really did anything for me, I can't say I ether really found myself attached to a certain weapon. The fact that all of the effects were basically x % chance for bleed etc didn't really help. That's not to say they looked bad, more just that there wasn't really anything I kept using despite it not being as good as other stuff in my inventory.I was going to try a be a bit nicer when reviewing this, but the fact that the game is now £60 down from £70 a few days after coming out really says it all. I mean give it until the end of the year and you might be able to pick it up for £30, even then in it's current state I'm not sure I'd recommend it.

Better than the reviews state!! Enjoyable
I pre-ordered this game...was very excited and got swept up in the hype.Reading the critics reviews of this game worried me because they were largely negative...slating it as being repetitive and boring.Having played it for a good few hours...I will give the most honest review I can.The story is a teeny bit cheesy, and there is a lot of fighting which I can imagine will seem repetitive to some. However, this game has never tried to pretend it's something it's not.If you like a lot of satisfying combat in a game that looks incredible visually and has loads of different looking weapons....get it!I enjoy picking this up and slashing enemies and trying out the different weapon styles! The graphics are lovely! My only gripe is there's no 'jump' as such. It's not required on this game....I'm just used to being able to press a button that lets a character jump. This game doesn't have that.....but you get used to it quickly and if you run you can go quite fast anyway. And you can jump up things that prompt you etc.In my summary....I'd say it's a good game. Not the best out there probably....may be marmite to some that bought it based on original hype....but I personally enjoy it!

Mediocre and uninspired
A mediocre RPG with a cripplingly short and unambitious storyline, seemingly developed more to showcase the PS5's potential than actually provide an enjoyable experience.I did manage to make it through the entire story, but found myself really have to dig down to find the motivation to do so. The combat is interesting, sometimes fun, but does get repetitive and dull.As mentioned, the story is really thin. Looking past that, most of the quests are a rinse repeat of "such a person has taken over this place, let's get them" and "you need to gather resources to unlock the next area".Overall, if you're into a very, very generic RPG with a moderately interesting combat system and a heavily involved looter mechanic, this is for you. Otherwise, if you're expecting something a little more involved, consider better alternatives.

Definitely a "buy on sale" kind of game.
Godfall is one of those games that you're better off waiting for a discount to pick up as it certainly isn't worth the normal pricetag of £70. I picked this game up for around £30 out of sheer curiosity. I'm a game critic in my spare time and this is one of those titles that I wanted to see for myself but wasn't in any rush to pick it up, especially after the marketing was a tad underwhelming. Turns out there is a good reason for that. The game is also fairly underwhelming.I'm not too far in at this point, around 4-5 hours worth of gameplay and so far I'm not very impressed with Godfall. The combat is subpar when compared to a similar nature with controls that don't feel nice to use and a lock-on system that's basically non-existent. You have a variety of weapons but none of them feel different enough to warrant ever specialising in a certain type. They all do the same damage so why bother going for a sluggish hammer that takes forever to swing when you could use twin knives and rack up DPS. Outside of getting a rare item, levelling up so the weapons aren't as effective, or building to a specific damage style... there isn't much point in changing. The game itself looks pretty good for the most part though. The world design and especially the armour design is really well done and looks wonderful in 4k. The downside is certain parts look pretty bad in comparison with lots of fog covering up certain parts of levels like a PS1 game and certain cutscene assets feeling like they're from the PS3.Then we have the story which is generic yet forgettable. I feel like I could tell you every storybeat that'll happen in this campaign from moment one but also couldn't tell you anything that's going on because the game hasn't given me much of a reason to care. The breakdown may sound harsh but I think it's important to remember how good we actually have games right now. There are a lot of incredible titles out there with staggering levels of quality on the PS4/5 alone so having one that's just sort of there feels pretty bad in comparison. That's not to say it is bad by any means, it's not. It's fine but there is a high bar to meet and when games are getting pricier... that's a bar you have to meet.Buy it on sale if you do genuinely want to pick it up, I think you'll feel a little better for yourself.

An enjoyable looter slasher.
This is a far better game than many of the critical reviews would have you believe. The game is a looter slasher and it does both very well. It also looks fantastic. The main story and quest line are quite forgettable because they are really just there to familiarise you with the combat and send you on your way to max level which is where the game really begins. At that point you will be alternating between Dreamstones (a series of hunt and kill missions) and the Ascended tower (a tower of increasingly powerful enemies) to challenge yourself, obtain better loot and improve your build.Combat is extremely satisfying with many different ways to defeat the various enemies you face. There is also a wide variety of builds that are centred around the various Valorplates (armour sets with individual bonuses and slots to add augments that can strengthen your character).A mix of Diablo III looting and builds with God of War combat. There are a few minor bugs which the developers will hopefully address in future updates. They also intend to add matchmaking which should really have been there from the start (1-3 players).
