Loom Knitting, Butterflies and Meddlesome Parents
Gone With The Wool, the fourth book in Betty Hechtman‘s Yarn Retreat mysteries, knits together a pleasant enough cozy. Ex-detective assistant Casey Feldstein juggles hosting duties for her next knitters’ retreat, baking for local eateries, and maintaining the charade she and ex-boyfriend Dr. Sammy Glickner are a couple when his parents unexpectedly visit. These events unfold during fictional town Cadbury by the Sea’s (standing in for the real Pacific Grove) week long Butterfly Week, a festival celebrating the locale’s Monarch butterfly population. A running subplot involves several town residents appearing at events throughout the week as they vie to be named Butterfly Queen. One of the festival committee chairs is murdered at the outset and Casey takes on the investigation of the murder too. This quirky cozy uses offbeat and over-the-top details for humor, in sitcom fashion. (For example, Dr. Sammy ditches his prestigious urology practice in Chicago to become a professional magician in Cadbury; the hard boiled dialogue between Casey and her ex-boss, PI Frank). There aren’t really enough clues and potential suspects developed throughout the story to allow the reader a decent chance at figuring out the culprit, but the depiction of Cadbury, the retreat workshops, and festival events keep the story moving and the reading fun.Overall rating 3+ stars. It simply wasn’t plausible that Casey’s slow burn boyfriend-to-be Dane, a local patrolman, would ask Casey to solve the murder when he is walled off the investigation because his sister is the prime and only suspect of the bumbling police chief.

This series gets better and better!
With the first book of the Yarn to Go Retreat series, I was a bit diappointed. At that point, I strongly preferred Betty Hechtman's books featuring the Tarzana Hookers. But each book gets better, and this 4th in the series is the best so far. The characters are well developed, the romantic triangle between Casie, Dane and Dr. Sammy quite hilarious. Throw in Sammy's parents and Dane's sister into the mix for this time adds much to the who committed the murder. Satisfying solution to who done it, I am eagerly looking forward to the next book.

Monarch Festival
Purchase for Save Our Cozies, I have read this author's Crochet and thought it was one I haven't read. My surprised to find it is the latest book out in a different series. I have always enjoyed books by this author and this one did not disappoint. The monarch butterflies return every fall to Cadbury, California to winter over there. The town has a major festival every year to honor the butterflies. Casey Feldstein is holding a Yarn Retreat to include the town's activities in her plans. During a display, the leader is stabbed in her back. Casey discovers an extortion attempt to become a partner in the town business. Who kill dislike woman I have increased my TBR pile again. I recommend the book.

Knitter's Murder Mystery
A fun book that dives into a group of knitters, their unique backgrounds, murder and the finding out of who did it. Book moves a little slow at first and leaves me wanting a little more is what my wife said, but she enjoyed it and read all 3 of them, so it must of been pretty good. She wished the love interest moved a little farther along, but was intrigued by some of the knitting styles and patterns.

Cozy murder?
So far, I have read several of the knitting mysteries. What I like about the is the area which, in real life is probably Carmel by the Sea, or Cambria. Either way, she has encompassed the feel of the Central Coast small towns. Combine that with knitting and you have a feeling you on one of the retreats. Not for every one but fun.
