Rabbi Sacks' commentary is insightful, erudite, and deep. The introduction consists of his original explanations and background material about Sukkkot and its themes as a whole, the meaning and significance of its mitzvot and customs, and especially the meaning of the book of Koheles. This Machzor is worth purchasing just for the introduction alone. Both traditional and original interpretations are given throughout the Machzor along with historical context and perspective. Although this reader sometimes finds difficulty seeing how Rabbi Sacks' conclusions follow from his premises, on the whole Rabbi's Sacks' explanations are inspiring (some epically so) and will resonate with the contemporary reader. Like his other works, this one is liberally sprinkled with insights, quotations, and applications of general scholarship from a wide array of sources. Highly recommended.
