A spy thriller of sortsnset in the Warhammer universe
The book is a refreshing take on the warfare conducted by the Astartes legion during the crusade. Its story arc mostly revolves around espionage and secret missions conducted by the Alpha legion. The book shows just how much the Alpha legion is mistrusted and their quirks regarding battle, even by the end of the book it is hard to tell who's Alpharius and who is not.Overall it is a good book and the first entry by Dan Abnett in the Horus Heresy series and he definitely gave the Alpha legion their much needed love.

Dan Abnett Book. What do you Expect
It’s Dan Abnett. It’s another fantastic book. This one took me four hours and fifty seven minutes from start to finish. I related to both the Alpha Legion And Imperial forces. Just a great well thought out and delivered read. Having served the colours in my younger years I can appreciate the loyalty and comradeship being part of a military unit brings and I think DA has captured the essence of this perfectly in this book, probably more so than other authors of the same genre.Ian McGregor is another talented author of WW2 military fiction who is also well worth a read and who captures this ethos equally well.

Good but not Abmett’s Best
I read the Horus Heresy books because the first by Dan Abnett was excellent. Entries by other authors in the series sometimes lived up to that, others less so. In Legion it’s obvious why Abnett got Book 1, even if this one isn’t as good. It’s still excellent. Not perfect, but sequels rarely are.

A nice change of pace.
At this point in my HH journey, I really wasnt expecting this. Legion has way more of an espionage vibe to it that the previous entries and a pretty different tone. Less bolter porn and more exploration of the universe. This served as my introduction to the Alpha Legion as well and I am keen to learn more.

Enjoyable
It is a different perspective of the alpha legion compared to how the other chapters have been written so far but it works well with how the alpha legion operate. Not so much full bore action but a nice change of pace for the series.

Great story
I have recently started getting back in to 40K but just from a story and lore perspective. This is a very good story and worth a read as I am finding with all other Heresy stories no matter which author has produced the book. The loss of one star is purely down to the cost of the book vs how many pages , it's just a bit expensive.
