Dr. Earth's Alfalfa Meal + Kelp Meal = my Go-To for my garden
My go-to products for gardening are Dr. Earth's Kelp Meal and their Alfalfa Meal. I garden in containers - mostly vegetables - some flowers (mini roses and annuals). When I use these two products, everything I have flourishes. EVERYTHING. It seriously turns the tide for me. In years past I struggled to get things growing well - but since adding this - it has made all the difference. (My houseplants love it too) My best outdoor growing beds are a mix of only: Kelp Meal, Alfalfa Meal, earthworm castings, aged horse manure, used coffee grounds from coffee shops, and some beds have a little peat and vermiculite. (No actual soil.) Stuff grows wondrously well with this.I learned something important about Alfalfa MEAL (from a youtube channel called, I am organic gardening - he's light-years beyond of me in plant knowledge) - alfalfa MEAL is not the same as alfalfa hay or cubes or pellets. For Alfalfa MEAL - the alfalfa is harvested BEFORE it goes to SEED. When going to seed, the plant sends nutrients to different places. When harvesting before going to seed, you're getting more nutrients in the harvested plant. And that extra nutrition then makes a better fertilizer. For alfalfa that's being used to feed animals, make hay, cubes, or pellets, it usually goes to seed or at least flowers before harvest (and other grasses may be mixed in with the alfalfa too.) The nutritional value is very very different and the hay, pellets, or cubes etc won't be as nutritious to the garden. So while meal sounds more expensive, I'll stick with meal; it's densely nutritious. Hope that helps. I can't use animal based products (like fish etc) - the smells of those attracts pests like raccoons and skunks for me - they rip up my planters looking for the source of the smell. The alfalfa and kelp never brought rodents or raccoons or other pests. Hope this helps others - I reviewed both products the same way because I use them together.
