The ability to grip the weights is a plus, especially if you want to use them for exercises without the barbell. As others mentioned, you will probably have to wipe down the weights. The rubbery smell eventually goes away. The rubber is more compatible with tile floor. Great weights.

I bought 10,35,45 lbs-ers. The 10’s are exactly 10lbs each. 45 and 35’s are 1/2lb or less off. My home gym is in the garage and I’ve had no issues with rubber smell. I’d definitely buy this brand again

These plates are really nicely made. Super smooth, and the grips are solid. Almost no mold oil, very light odor. They have a great fit on the bar, with almost no wiggle at all. That fit allows a smooth transition on and off the bar, but also keeps them snug and prevents the wiggle that causes sliding and movement if you don't use consistently use collars. I have several different types of plate sets from different manufacturers and these lock into place with most of the other plates.

The worn counterweight board is dirty and smelly. It's annoying to look at it. Is this a second-hand commodity to deceive consumers

And they look great...getta lil dusty, wipe them down in a all purpose cleaner, dry and wipe them with tire shine and wipe dry😉
