New ActivGuard protection to neutralize irritants in dirty diapers Diaper Rash Advisor: Detection Unfortunately, no matter how well you care for your baby, diaper rash can still occur from time to time. Diaper rash begins when trapped moisture and friction begin to irritate the skin. The irritation continues over time, and the harsh urine and stool inside a soiled diaper can make the situation worse. Diaper rash is not only uncomfortable for baby, but if it is left unattended, or doesn't resolve on its own, it can even lead to infection. Diaper Rash Advisor: Correction Even the most carefully cared for babies can get a diaper rash from time to time. Experienced moms say that baby's teething, exposure to new foods, and use of antibiotics can lead to diaper rashes. And any time your baby has prolonged exposure to diaper irritants (such as overnight) or it becomes warm and moist in your baby's diaper (such as on a hot, humid summer day) the risk of him or her experiencing a diaper rash is greater. If your baby does get a diaper rash, the following steps can help correct the rash and ensure your baby gets back to his/her comfortable, smiling self: Balmex Tips to Help Correct Diaper Rash Change your baby's diaper as soon as possible after it becomes wet or soiled. Use clean warm (not hot) water to gently wash baby's diaper area and use a squirt bottle or bulb syringe to apply the water. The goal is to avoid extra rubbing of the skin. Gently pat baby's bottom dry, avoiding rubbing the skin. Allow the area to further air dry to eliminate as much moisture as possible. Apply a thick layer of Balmex Zinc Oxide Diaper Rash Cream to all affected areas to form a protective layer on baby's skin. Diaper your baby, making sure the diaper is not too tight to help lessen diaper friction and increase airflow to the irritated skin. Similar to rash prevention, the key to correcting a diaper rash is to keep your baby's skin as clean and dry as possible, and protect it from further exposure to irritants. If your baby's rash persists after 7 days of treatment, if it spreads, or if it otherwise worsens, call your baby's pediatrician. Diaper Rash Advisor: Protection Diaper rash is actually the common name for several different types of rashes that can occur on your baby, and is typically found in the diaper region. There are many causes of diaper rash including friction (typically from diaper), exposure of the skin to irritants like urine and feces, allergies (such as to foods), and others. Protecting your baby from diaper rash means protecting your baby's skin from the most common causes of diaper rash, typically contact with urine and feces or diaper friction. Though there is no sure fire way to guarantee your baby will not get a diaper rash, there are several things you can do to significantly reduce the risk of your baby suffering from an uncomfortable diaper rash. Most of these tips can be summed up to keeping your baby's skin clean and dry, and making sure areas exposed to friction and irritants are always covered with a skin protectant like Balmex Multi-Purpose Healing Ointm
