Q: hello , in addition to the software's included can we download illustrator or any other software in it .

You can't download any software into this device. This device hooks up to your computer and acts as an interface. If you want to download software into a device you need to the Cintiq Companion Hybrid which is essentially a 13hd that is actually a stand alone tablet. That cost around $1600. I don't have one of those but I can imagine you can run illustrator on that. As far as this device goes, as long as the computer that you are running this device on can run illustrator I am pretty sure it should work. Write now I'm using Manga Studio 5, sketchbook pro 6, and photoshop CS3 and they all work fine. This also came with a trial of the new Painter software and Anime Studio Debut which both work fine. I will say though, if you decide to buy this machine make sure you computer has an HDMI port. If it doesn't you will need a USB to Hdmi adapter. I have one of those all in one HP computers. They don't carry HDMI ports. I bought my adapter for $30 and it works like a champ.

Q: Is it smart to buy one now or will Wacom release an update soon?

Look at the New Microsoft Surface Book. The pen and graphics tools are written by Wacom and in reality, you can just about forget spending a ton on any dedicated graphics device, including an Intuos.

Q: Is the 11.75" x 6.75" active area worth $1000? I'm a pro illustrator wondering if the size will help my workflow.

I'm a fine art photography and graphic design student. any of the cintiq's are worth the money I just invested in the cintiq 13hd and I love it. it makes creating and editing so much faster, precise and easier I wish I would have gotten one years ago. so yes its worth the money before I was using a wacom intuos 5 or a mouse and keyboard and it would take forever to get things right. With the cintiq I would say it has cut the time almost in half of what it use to take me to edit or create a design. Though you being an illustrator you my find the bigger cintiq's to be better for you if your use to using a bigger area to draw/create on.

Q: I would be using for this for teaching Geometry. Is it compatible with a MacBook?

Yes , I have tried it on both my PC and my Macbook Pro.
